Well, there are some pretty sweet (and elaborate) rigs here. I should be jealous!Anyway, I use much more modest rig, having listened in the past to setups that include VPI, Rega (and an OriginLive-modified arm), ClearAudio, Grado, and Shure. My current rig is really quite modest, but it's very well sorted (as our British friends might say), meaning that weight, alignment, etc. seem optimal (to my ears). I find this rig offers detail, sound stage, dynamics, and overall listen-ability; I don't find it fatiguing. Some recordings offer a sound-stage that appears beyond my speakers, which can be a stunning experience. The foundation of this modest rig is a U-Turn Orbit turntable. The turntable's motor provides excellent stability and low noise. I admit; I really like the photo attached, taken from U-Turn's site.
Overall, the rig, which is run through a Denon front end, vintage McIntosh 240 amplifier, current model Wharfedale Linton's (and two subs), is as musical as I've ever wanted. It consists of:
U-Turn Orbit turntable with current production (OA-2) arm
U-Turn acrylic platter
U-Turn and Disc Sleeve City disk weights
Herbie's Way Excellent turntable mat
Auralex Iso-Tone isolation base
Ortofon 2M Blue cartridge
Bellari VP-130 Mk2 phono preamp.
I have had more expensive gear; maybe I'll take that path in future. However, this set-up works very well. It's not fussy (I can replace the stylus myself), and it really makes music. I have no current desire to upgrade. And the red base is pretty, too.
