I mean if you could sell a component for $400 and get something for $200 that sounds better would you do it?
I say hell yes. That's $200 to spend on vinyl or CDs. A significant % of engineers work creating these kinds of savings for manufacturing/production outfits for a living.
My point is we are trained to think spending more is going to make things better. But that doesn't mean just spending more makes it better nor does it mean a horizontal move or spending less can't make it better. In fact depending on how well the original upgrade actually was determines how hard it would be to find something at the same or lower price that is truly better.
Back in 2003 or so I built a system that I really fully enjoyed. I had more money and wanted to upgrade. I thought why? What more could I ask for. So I build a second system instead.
An audiophiles work is never done.
