Well, I designed this response

When I wrote, " theoretical reality". I was trying to express that the effect is a reality, but more useful as an understanding than an effective concern in use. I know it is an incorrect usage, but screwed up.,probably because it sounded impressive, and I was blinded by ego.

I will reserve the future use for undiscovered stars and other stuff, correctly.

My thinking is , the thing is already built, so I would consider the merchandise provided for my money, not the intrinsic properties of the belt materials used that are common to all belt drive tables, the only variable being the belt material. unless a belt or rim drive design is a deal breaker for you .

There is not a lot of grunting and groaning required to spin a platter on a low friction high precision bearing spinning at a constant tightly controlled speed, so the elastic properties of the belt are minimized.

I certainly don't design turntables, but a belt drive should use enough belt wrap on the wheel so that the belt doesn't slip, I am sure this was known as soon as the first belt drive was invented.

No flexible drive can escape the micro effects you describe, I just differ in my concern over the practical effects. I would guess the precision of the center hole location might be a more relevant performance concern, but that is just a guess.

Every design can be improved, but For my purposes, a belt drive is not an intrinsically compromised design. if belt slippage were a performance problem it would certainly effect the market, since there are other drives to buy.

But these other drives might not have the feature of being able to select a drive belt that hits a resonant frequency the tunes out some motor noise , a normal design feature of a belt drive table.

To illustrate what I am saying about this design reality of belt slippage as not a deal breaker, but a good trade off for noise isolation, ease of build, and cost. check some of the posts here by John Ellison, posting about his speed controls. He is using a belt drive table and you can check the digital speed readouts to see if the results cut it for your needs.

My bias is probably showing, I own a belt drive , a classic design that has been on the market forever it is such a good table , a Michael gyro se , and I am super happy. One might call that table the home run of the firm.

all the best.
