I have room and phono inputs for three tables in my system, so that is what I keep around. Probably general silliness, but I enjoy tables and cartridges. The best table I own is the SOTA Cosmos Eclipse with SME V, and I recently acquired a used Well Tempered Reference, and that was supposed to be a casual table for me. Well it had a low hour Ikeda 9 Kawami cartridge on it, and that cartridge is unique in many respects along with being difficult to get retipped. So it ended up moving out of that casual position and into one of those reserved night/morning listening session component. This is a mass loaded table, the corian base comes in at 65 pounds, and it does use a silicone damped arm.
So that means I still need a table for casual playback of vinyl, and I ended up selecting a SOTA Nova Eclipse. I will be installing an Audiomods Model 6 arm on it. The cartridge selection I have does not qualify for casual listening, but I have to use something. All of these can be retipped with general ease. I have a ZYX 4D, Ortofon A90, and Denon DL-S1 available. I suspect I will use the ZYX on this table as that cartridge probably has the most hours on it and perhaps should be used up and retipped.
But I have suspended wooden floors and do not have an issue with the Well Tempered or the SOTA having issues. The designs are so different that there is no way to compare them easily, and I really don't have the inclination to do so, I just prefer to listen to and enjoy the uniqueness of each table. However the Cosmos is more expansive, layered, and immersive. While the WTR/Ikeda is amazing in its clarity and immediacy, but not as expansive in sound stage. I feel fortunate to be able to enjoy both tables and find that the diversity is the spice of life.
