" I know a Linn certified LP12 setup technician that never did what you are saying due not stressing the springs."
As I said about the rotation through 90 degrees: " What it allows is tightening of the nuts holding the suspension bolts to the top plate". To do this the springs cannot be fitted and as they are not in place they cannot be stressed. It is the first stage of assembling (not adjusting) the suspension and may be required on a deck for two reasons 1. the suspension bolts are bent or 2 . the fixing to the top plate has become loose. Of course neither the sub-platter nor the platter can be in place when this is done and is why I mentioned the need for the bearing housing plug to be used. It is another reason why the springs are not stressed as even when fitted they are not in tension.
I also mentioned the dressing of the cable through the P clip (although the clip design has changed over the years). Many UK dealers insert (or inserted)a screwdriver through the loop and, using the attachment point as a fulcrum, forcibly pull the clip tight around the cable. It is/was also common practice to place a washer under the retaining nut to prevent the nut simply drilling into the plastic clip when made "Linn tight". All of this is difficult to do with the turntable horizontal.
BTW I was trained in setting up the turntable at Linn's factory in Glasgow albeit now many, many years ago. So long ago it was at the Castlemilk factory and not the current Richard Rogers designed one at Waterfoot.
