And according to him, the suspension was designed to isolate the motor from the turntable and the tone arm. It works really well. You can bang on the top plate and the noise never gets through to the arm.
On some Duals, the ones with the small platter, you can hear the motor at the beginning of each side (rim drive Duals have the motors mounted near the edge of the platter).
I had a Moth Alamo S and I put a Rabco tone arm on it. The biggest issue was motor noise. I couldn't isolate the motor in a way that gave me consistent speed.
