Not that I recall. The top plate of the Pink Triangle was glass on the original and anniversary models. The PT1 had a steel top plate that was easier to manufacture.

The founder of Pink Triangle now runs the Funk Firm. I don't know why the original company failed eventually but it wasn't because of their top plates.

I think that a competitive product at the time was the Roksan Xerxes turntable and I vaguely remember that may have had an MDF top plate. They are, of course, still in business.
