RE: Hot Rodded AR XA

The 103M is not a typical 103 series cartridge, and it is not low compliance. Rather it comes in around 20 dyne, and has an air coil architecture that is responsible for the .12mV output. So it is suited for the arm unlike a 103 or 103R would be. But the low ouput voltage requires a step up, as my Liberty Audio B2B-1 phono stage can't quite accept that low of an output voltage, although it will deal with .17 mV quite easily. So I use a SUT based on Cimemag CM1254 transformers.

Yes the arm wand has been changed out, its a damped technics wand, and it has a Yamamoto HS-1A ebony head shell attached. The vertical pivot assembly to the arm wand has been heavily modified with V blocks and sapphire lining, with micro polished pins on the wand installed.

The inspection of the T bar was due in part to rough shipping, we needed to make sure it was still true and not damaged.

The suspension has Linn springs installed, new rubber perches, foam, and adjuster wheels. The Linn springs are stiffer so extra mass has been added to the T bar, and it moves the center of gravity of the assembly lower, improving the vertical stability of the t bar when it travels. The motor has a stiffening plate under it installed, and the pulley has been mass loaded and balanced.

Hopefully that gives a clearer picture of what my XA is set up like.

Regards
Mister Pig
