RE: Why is this Sony MC cart matched with this arm?

Hey! I have that table and arm too. I bought it in a thrift store where, either someone who works there or a "customer" regularly steal the cartridges and headshells off of the tables, unless the are real junk. For that reason, I do not have the cartridge or the headshell. For the price I paid, I can't complain, but I am still hoping to get lucky and find the original Somy headshell. I plan to use a spacer until I do.

Sorry for the long introduction, but I do have an answer to your question. I was into good sound when this table came out, and that was the way they did it back then. It was very common to see a high compliance cartage on a medium or even high mass arm. For the most part, people just did not pay attention to matching. Everything was being sold on specs. High compliance cartridges tracked better, and therefor must be better in all situations.
