I don't know which version of the Sonata you have, but I have just been trying the .5mV version, the Statement Sonata. It's extraordinary. While the highs aren't as airy or bright, I have have been promised by John Grado, himself, that the Master version will give me more frequency extension, more detail, better transients and better dynamics. I'm sold on it.Moreover, Grado will take a trade-in on your Sonata to upgrade. Ask John Grado about it.
Moving coils in this price range are always likely to have a bit tipped up quality in the high end. This is one of the reasons that Grados sound soooooo smooth. Go to www.gradolabs.com and read the Grado Theory under the cartridge area. John Grado took a call from me yesterday and he's very straight forward and friendly.
One more thing - I asked an analog industry "guru" (not affiliated with any manufacturer) about whether I could find the Grado mid-range in any other cartridge. His response: "Grado's got that one down pat."
I decided that I don't want to give up that mid-range.
