As far as the knobs go, I just pull them off and run them under warm water. As for the brushed aluminum, I use a small amount of alcohol followed by a wipedown w/ a clean rag. It caused no damage to the lettering on my Kenwood KR-6030 nor my Sony TC-199SD tape deck.
