Stacked Advents - Efficiency? Suitability w/SET

I believe I read a while back that the original Large Advents are about 89 db/w/m and that stacking in parallel cuts the impedance to 4 ohms and adds 6 db. Is that correct? My Advent stack is a bit atypical - original masonite Large Advents on the bottom and Advent 1's on top. Would those efficiency figures still be accurate - that they should be about 95 db/w/m? I just finished building my first DIY effort (!), a Bugle 45 amp. This is only 2.5 watts/ch. I've been using both the single Large and stacked Advents with this and, frankly, I'm amazed at how much volume I'm getting - much more than I expected based on what I've read. I'm trying to guage how much more efficiency I would need to make an appreciable difference. All I can say is that the SET guys who claim you absolutely NEED 100 db (or more) with these low powered amps must like to listen REALLY LOUD. (And if they've been listening that loudly on a regular basis for many years, how good is their hearing at this point?? But that's another question!) I occasionally listen at levels that are significantly louder but this level is enough for about 90% of my typical listening. They even seem to do well with the dynamics of classical music, which I listen to only occasionally. The room is not really large either (13.5 X 22 X 8) and the listening position is only about 7 ft from the speakers but even in the back of the room it's fine. Of course I'm talking only about volume here - not quality of sound - although I think the sound is wonderful - great detail and, well, purity. Bass is just a bit lacking when I go directly into the amp (I put a volume control on it) but with a preamp there's plenty. Maybe I should ask this in one of the other forums but does anyone here have any experience with full range drivers like the Fostex (preferably in a box type design) or with horns. If volume isn't a problem I'm wondering how much there is to be gained by going that route. Any comments would be greatly apprciated. . . . Charlie
