The classic RCA, Mercury, London, DECCA recordings were from the 50's and early 60's...roughly until the changeover from tube to SS equipment.
The OP focused on SS equipment from the late 60's-80's.
Apples to raisins comparison, though many attempt it.
As to the OP supporting evidence, yes parts quality has changed over 60yrs (or 30yrs), and it is possible to improve classic equipment using newer and higher quality parts. But all you are doing is refining an already good-great design. Implementation rather than innovation.
