Old ears. My ears are 71 years old. I used to tweak tube gear, but around age 65 noticed I could not hear the tiny differences any longer. At 68 tinnitus did set in, but about a 10Khz low level pitch as the slight hiss I always had in a silent room changed to have a slight tone. It goes way at times and does not seem to interfere with listening to music. I still hear 20Hz to 10kHz.
My tube amp that slightly outperforms my rebuilt 'freak' Allied 395 per another audiophile with younger ears, it is not so evident to me. Perhaps time to pass my tube amp to a younger audiophile. Hey.........
