RE: The Market

An Allied 395 (Pioneer SX-1000TD) found it way into my home. Produced a small soundstage in stock form, but very clear without that solid-state 'haze'. Haze is like a thin blanket over the speaker. It sounded like a tube amp to me.

I replaced the 1000uF power electrolytic caps with 2200uF and the 1000uF speaker coupling caps with ELNA Silmic II. A huge soundstage came out and frankly although a tube guy, I could live with the Allied 395 as my main amp. Never heard solid-state sound like this. And, speaker coupling caps make such a difference? Unreal.

I decided to replace all the capacitors except the tuner. Used ELNA Silmic II in coupling positions and got a little more improvement.
