RE: hot-rod console

It may in fact sound better, but I think you should concentrate on the electronics. It wouldn't hurt to tune up the amp/pre with new capacitors and resistors and maybe even tubes. Not sure of what your unit is exactly. I have an amp from an old early 60's GE console that was a record changer only. It is a SET with 2 6BQ5, 1-6eu7, and 1-5Y3GT. It is a good sounding amp and powers AR speakers nicely in my bedroom.
