RE: KLH 17 redux

I still have my KLH 17's. They were my first matched pair of speakers for stereo. I bought them in 1969 and used them with my Dynaco amps and PAS-3X preamp. More recently, the woofers have been restored, the cone tweeters replaced with a pair of Morel MDT-20's, and a new crossover design to suit the Morels.

They still sound good; but they do need to be near the floor.

The original design was made in the era of tube amps, and they do need a little series resistance when used with SS amps to simulate the source impedance of a tube amp.

I did have a chance to compare them to the Dyna A25's using a Dyna ST120 amp. The A-25's produced more low end; but the 17's had a much nicer midrange. Even the A25's owner agreed to that. I also thought the A25's sounded a lot like Advents; but where the Advents went lower, the 17's still were better in the mids.
