One thing they are both connected to is pin 6 of the selector switch. I think you mentioned it is new? Is that correct? If not, you could try cleaning the selector switch. Or before you turn the treble, see if slight pressure or motion of selector switch causes the same pop.
I'm still thinking control or switch is acting like a capacitor. You might even be able to read a slight DC offset across the selector switch.
