Try playing with the stereo/mono switch. I had a Tandberg receiver recently that did not engage unless the switch was pulled out, with my fingers, all the way. It might have dirty contacts from lack of use. Press and release it a couple dozen times, that might wipe the contacts a bit. A little contact cleaner might help too.
