that was Harry Pearson's concept - hence the name of the magazine he founded. :)

Clearly, he preferred using the sound of unamplified instruments to evaluate how well an audio system could reproduce them. There really wasn't much rock music found in his music library.

Like his friend and co-reviewer JWC, both regularly attended symphony concerts to provide a ready reference for instrumental color, dynamics and hall acoustics.
