Home Vintage Asylum

Classic gear from yesteryear; vintage audio standing the test of time.

Vinnie2, I agree with you..... But it depends on.....

Disclaimer, I own two big duces. I sold a Citation V with an older rebuild kit from Jim. The Citation V is the only vintage amp I wish I had kept. I find both amps to be clear very extended and accurate. Like you I also own the Eico HF81 that I love. Two somewhat different sounding amps.

Vinnie, I agree with you both Citation V and II in some cases can and do sound somewhat dry even lean. I found this to be due to the preamp, speakers and or turntable cart used. What I'm not saying is you must use overly warm colored tube pre, speakers or cart as a tone control to crutch the Citation. And I'm not saying the Citations are difficult to match other components to. Synergy is important in all gear some more easy to match than others.

THe little HF81 will on the other hand match nicely with just about any fairly efficient speakers.
