RE: Amp for new AR 3 owner

Thanks very much for the comments thus far. I'm fairly confident that my Yamaha M-4 won't have a problem driving the 3's at 170 watts. I'm also buying a Crown XLS 1000 amp because it's cheap at less than $200, and it has received positive reviews from folks using it to drive difficult speakers effortsly, including the 3's. 350 watts at 4 ohms.

I have a Yamaha C-4 preamp, but I will also use a Dynaco Super Pas/Van Alstine modded pre to give the system a bit of tube flavor.

As I said, I'd love to own a H/K II, and perhaps one day I will. But at current costs(pretty sure to have it properly restored by the likes of Jim McShane it would cost upward to $2k) it will have to wait. That said, I will keep my eyes open for an opportunity.
