Classic gear from yesteryear; vintage audio standing the test of time.

I go through this almost weekly

With a lot of different flavors it's always going to be hard to pick one to stick with. That's why I like having my different pieces. Go through different listening moods, read something, try something new with an old piece. It's all good. Probably my 2 favorite pieces are my Fisher 400 and X-101-C. They've both been restored perfectly. The 400 sounds incredible, and is so easy to use. I get great tuner reception, and as anyone knows who has tried one, the tuner sounds out of this world. I'm lucky to have some great radio in the San Francisco/Bay Area and a good roof antenna insures that I am able to pull in most of it. Also has a world class phono. So tuner, phono, preamp and amp, all wrapped up in that Fisher goodness. My 400 is an early one, dating to '64. And I can change the flavors around in it simply by rolling 12AX7's. The X-101-C is basically the same, albeit with 7591 OP's. For that I simply add a Fisher R-200 tuner and I'm off to the races. So many a time I think why use anything else? These 2 units fill all my needs and sound awesome. But then I'll look at one of my Heathkit pieces, or my Eico HF-87, or my Sherwood S5000, or even one of my vintage SS Harman Kardon or Sony receivers. And I get the urge to hear them again. What's a poor boy to do?

So I wouldn't get to frustrated at not being able to settle on one set up. Variety is the spice of life, right?
