Classic gear from yesteryear; vintage audio standing the test of time.

Reading all the comments of the last few days, not to mention Mr. Samra's love of the Sherwood integrated I finally laid my hands on what I think is going to a fun piece. From the gentleman who restored this:

Power supply has been completely recapped, and bias diodes replaced. Voltages dialed in for correct bias and DC heater voltages on phono stage. Coupling caps were not replaced, as none of them NEEDED to be replaced (absolutely no sign of leakage in any of the original epoxy-dipped caps- this is NOT unusual for these type caps, as they generally live virtually forever, outside of external damaging forces).

Power supply caps were upgraded in a few beneficial locations- the bias supply/DC heater caps were increased in value from 150/250/50uf, to 220/470/100uf (which, along with the new fast-recovery diodes in the bias supply, made the bias supply cleaner and more stable). Additional capacitance was also added to the preamp stage supply (from 20 to 32uf, and from 30 to 65uf), to reduce ripple in the front end gain stages (reducing hum).

Tubes are 1- GE 5V4GB rectifier tube, 4- IEC/Mullard 7189 output tubes, 2- GE 7199 driver tubes, 3- Shuguang 12AX7 preamp tubes, and 2- IEC/Mullard 12AX7 phono stage tubes. Preamp tubes were carefully selected for minimum noise and best sound. This is somewhat critical in these amps- the 12AX7 tubes have to have spiral-wound filaments, to avoid hum. The 12AX7 tubes in this unit are the quietest ones, of all tubes tested (Sylvania, RCA, Mullard, Shuguang, Sovtek LPS, etc were tested in-unit, and the Shuguang and Mullard tubes were the best overall).

5V4GB used in place of 5AR4, as that resulted in correct B+ and other voltages inside the amp (the voltages were too high on 120V line voltage, with the 5AR4).

Always appreciate any thoughts, but I'm very excited about this one. Recently acquired restored Fisher 30A mono blocks, so it's been a pretty great month for me.
