One suggestion...

Hit the DC Offset trim pot with some deoxit and work the pot a bit (with the unit off and unplugged of course). Then after it dries, try adjusting DC offset again.

I had a 2238 that had the DC offset all over the place and that did the trick. Note though that this almost surely has nothing to do with the static.
