Home Vintage Asylum

Classic gear from yesteryear; vintage audio standing the test of time.

The worst sounding gear I had was the Crown IC 150

preamp and he Dynaco ST 400 (and I love Dnyaco stuff) They were utterly horrific. One reknown preamp I had that sounded terrible to me was the Audible Illusions 2 (I think it was the 2) The name is apropos because there was no illusion it was producing good sounding audio.

I like the appearance of vintage gear mostly. Marantz tube amps, Marantz 7 pre, Mac stuff, Dynaco, vintage tuners, turntables, Quad ESL 57, etc.

I go to these stereo shows and it seems most of the manufacturers are just trying to make stuff that looks pretty or intriguing. It may but most of it sounds uninteresting to me. My friend's system (modified K-horns, DIY LDR pre, DIY 2A3 amps, Denon 103, etc,) sounds better than any of those $100k + high fallutin systems I heard.
