RE: Amp and preamp for Altec flamencos

I have owned my Flamenco's for 20 plus years and have tried many amps. They can sound very good with EL84 PP tube amps- Dyna ST-35, Pilot SA-232, EICO, Fisher, Heathkit, Scott. Not as sweet sounding with PP EL34 amps. Low powered gain clones sound nice too.

If you value natural organic sound above all else go SET 2A3 amps. My fi 2A3 amp with JJ output tubes sounds splendid. Holographic sound stage, dynamic, tonally correct. You don't have to play your music loud to get the dynamic swings that 2A3's have. Sounds great at low volume levels too.

Try the AI Modulus 2 series preamps- 2C or 2D. Your at about $2000 with this combo. Plenty of gain with this combo so adding a LOMC/SUT becames tricky- too much gain.

The Cinemag SUT's are a good solid choice for the money but you can do better.

You have money left over for a big vinyl run, tubes and another cartridge or two.

I've lived with this set-up long enough that it's stopped my urges to try other gear.
