The Empire 208, Thorens TD-124, or Garrard 301 are similar vintage 'tables that are well thought of, preferably with an SME or Ortofon 'arm. My personal choice would be a Garrard 301 with an Ortofon RF-297 or RMG-309 12" tonearm, but this would be pricey. The stock 'arm on the Empire 208 is not that bad. This would be the least expensive route. Avoid the later sprung models (498-698,) as they are not nearly as good sounding. Some 208's run a little fast, for which there are a few cures, and some attention should be paid to isolation/feedback resistance. The supplied rubber feet may, or may not, be adequate.
Best,
David
