Shibata styli are closer to line contact/microridge styli. In fact Shibata and v.d. Hul were the first to break out of the ellipse -- developing their shapes at the same time.
I don't remember how your TT is calibrated, but spherical and elliptical styli have similar requirements -- and in 'the old days', we were told to set the AS dial to match the VTF dial.
With line contact styli, you need MUCH LESS AS. Eg. if your VTF is say 2 gm. then the AS would be around .5 - .75 gm.
