Mike- I wish that they had used 12awg, unfortunately it looks more like wimpy 24 gauge stranded to me, which chokes the shit out of the power supply. Of the three examples that I have, color code wise, no two are wired alike. Also, if you're not planning on using a WA-p2 preamp, it really doesn't make sense to me to bring the 117 vac to the output chassis through the umbilical(this becomes the on/off switch). I'd love to learn the reasoning that Heath used in not using a standard on/off switch on thier amplifier chassis, instead opting for that "shorted" octal plug for a switch.(less moving parts?).Eventually I am going to eliminate the 117 vac outlet on the power supply chassis and locate the on/off switch there (no drilling holes needed). Anyways, on the power supply chassis octal "jack"(socket), pins #1 and #2 are the 6.3vac filament connection. Pin #3 is ground, while pin #4 is your B+. Pin #5 is left blank (N/C) with pin #6 being the connection for 1/2 of the 117 VAC cord. Pin #7 connects to a wire that in turn connects to one side of the 117 vac power outlet which also serves as a tie point for one half of the power transformer primary (black wires). And finally, pin #8 has TWO wires coming off of it, one going to one of the lugs on the fuse holder, the other wire going to the other lug on the power outlet which also connects to the other power transformer primary wire.The other "half" of the 117vac cord connects to the other lug on the fuse holder. Clear as mud, huh? This may be easier to explain in a phone call or certainly a picture or drawing, so let me know if I can be of further assistance. By the way, following suggestions of Jeff's, I clip leaded in parallel with the B+ and ground wires, first one lead, then two, and finally three, listening between each change. I didn't hear much if any, difference. Following another suggestion, I clip leaded in parallel with the umbilical AND the power supply, one lead at a time again. This tme I could HEAR a significant improvement with each additional parallel clip lead (total of three), no shit, it was not subtle either. Lesson learned: 18 gauge alone is not good enough to carry the B+ or the ground wire, big improvement with one, then two additional clip lead runs, not as noticable with the third clip lead run. Any idea what three parallel runs of 18 gauge is equal to? There must be a conversion chart somewhere. Enjoy, regards, wpod
