I beleive that is a driver that was manufactured for Ampex by JBL and from what I remember reading, it actually sounded better than it's JBL counterpart. The 755 series of drivers including the WE and later Altecs (A thru E) had "pancake" style baskets that had a very thin profile as they were used quite often as public address speakers in wall hung and ceiling applications in commercial buildings.
