Re: What to buy: Pinnicle PN 7+ or Genesis 1+ ?

I sometimes run my Genesis 1s with a Marantz 1060, similar to your 2230. I use a Solen cap on the high pass and think the inverted dome tweeter a driver that would appeal to music lovers. (I like it better than the modern Vifa silk domes that I have sitting on a shelf in the corner.) Maybe an inverted dome is better at "sloughing off" distortion at the diaphragm's periphery? That the crossover is at a lowish 1800 cycles, I think, helps somewhat, too. And I keep the speakers strapped on high stands about thirty inches off the floor so that the domes are at ear level. Burhoe wants them against the wall but don't do it. Pair them with the 2230 and you would never have to look back but these things are as good as the electronics that drive them. I've used modern and vintage gear with them--the sweetest sound may have come from a Tandberg TR 2080--and they were always up to the task. They do not have the subjectively recessive midrange of modern speakers but throw it in your face with low distortion. Prepare to have your preconceptions about vintage box speakers obliterated.
