In my town, the hot set-up back in the day was to pair the 12 with an Advent 30 reciever using the Advent's preamp outs. The Advent 30 had a "Giant Killer" phono stage designed by a young Tomlinson Holman; plus it had a decent FM tuner and a headphone out. I think the retail on the Advent was less than $150.
