Interesting you should put them in a Karlson. That was one of the recommended speakers for the Karlson. Have you tried them full range? The Karlson was supposed to overcome the dispersion issue as the higher frequencies radiated from the top of the exponential slot where it was narrow, giving good dispersion. Should be a good match for the Heil driver. Really interesting combination and a good choice I should think. They actually recommended the Karlson 15 for the Wharfedale 12/fs/al.With the high damping on the Whafedales and the '59 manufacture, you can be sure they were meant for tubes. I'd want more than 3-4 Watts though, maybe 20 per side. Something like an Eico ST-70 ought to be perfect. Think of it as an over rated 25 W/ch amp. Under those conditions it rivals the Mac MC225, which is under rated and clips at 34-35 W/ch, same as the Eico. As I recall, the Eico ST-70 had a lower damping factor than the Dyna Stereo 70, and that would be better for the Wharfedales. Or try adding a 1 ohm resistor in series to reduce the damping. You can have too much of a good thing.
