I've got a set of Jensen 12" drivers I listen to as fullrangers. All you get with field coil motors is the possibility of higher sensitivity. The field coil itself should not contibute any sound, it's just a different type of magnet. You can find a lot more info over at the High Eff board here at AA. The biggest issue I had with mine were that the power supplies I got with the speakers contributed some hum(bad filtering). I replaced it with a good DC power supply and now I'm quite happy with them. They can be a pretty afordable way to get very high sensitivities. Steve helped me a bit but his stuff seemed quite large for most people I would think.
