It may be that the older capacitors in the tweeter circut are to blame for the dull sound instead of the tweeters themselves. Best to replace these 1st, and clean any level controls (if present) before considering driver replacement. Sometines this is all that is required in the way of a restoration. Removing the woofer is often the only access to the interior- be sure and protect the cone and surround from punctures with a piece of heavy cardboard in the event of a slip from the screwdriver or other tool you may be using for this removal.
