Re: 1960s Wharfedale Achromatics?

The Wharfdales are real troupers. My W35's are still going strong, the surrounds have not rotted out after 25 years, while the Altec Model 9's that replaced them are waiting for surrounds. Judicious adjustment of the L pads (preferably with a test mic) will give you very nice sounding speakers from that era, but not much in the way of audiophile imaging. On a trip to the hi fi shop to get some Japanese speakers on sale (circa early 70s), I came home with the Wharfales instead as they sounded better than the others in the price range. Wharfdale was started by G.A. Biggs, a British concert pianist of note, and an early hi fi author and pioneer in the late 40s and early 50s.
