Classic gear from yesteryear; vintage audio standing the test of time.

Yeah, these Wharfedales are real heartbreakers.

I've had a couple of pairs over the years. I had one pair with a blown tweeter. I believe the original tweeter was a blue 1 3/8" dome, with a square ceramic magnet. The midrange driver had it's own subenclosure in the box. The remarkable thing about it was the fact that there was no surround on it. The cone edge was freefloating on a bed of felt. The woofer, as has been described, had a massive square ceramic magnet and did really well in the original box. I actually pulled both of them out and mounted them in a Bozak 302 enclosure. The results were not much different than the original, much smaller Wharfedale box. On the spectrum analyzer, the lowest octaves were mostly missing, but the driver itself was pretty much bulletproof...very tough.
Finally, the one thing that no one has mentioned, and the reason why it may not be a great idea to ship the Wharfedales, is the fact that the removable back panel on the 60's is filled with sand. They weigh a ton, and if you remove them and then drop them on your foot.....twice......the way I did, you will remember that.
