i own a duel 1229Q best turn table ive ever heard much less owned also the best turntable duel ever made, i got lucky bought it at a resale shop for 40 bucks i own a couple other turntables duel 506 and a pioneer, forgot the model number on the pioneer. The duel 1229Q sounds so good its unbelivable, motor is not close to platter platter is heavy over all craftmanship outstanding sound is outstanding, Q means it can take the big boy cartriages, i would recommend it without question, the smooth tranfer of analog bliss even suprized me a bit and ive owned a lot of turntables. the 1229 Q is a great deal also direct drive ( little rubber wheel that might have to be replaced to get right speed ) not a big deal its a cheap fix. great design, mind blowing sound, great specs great tone arm great platter nothing bad to say about it the duel 1229Q is a great turn table i highly recommend it. even has the speed studs on the inside of the platter with a mini parascope to view them. just added bliss when its really the last thing you probally care about :) i would say the 1229 Q is also technically better on specs as well but i'm not positive about that. My guess is the duel 1229Q was the best turntable made in the 1970s and beats a lot of expensive (isolation) turntables made today the 1229Q's sell for more now on ebay then they cost new thats always a good sign as far as the speakers go, good luck thats a very opinionated subject :) so i better shut up now. anyway the duel 1229Q if you care most about sound its the best :P
