Re: 1970's Speakers For Vintage System

Along with system synergy, the types of music you most often listen to, typical volume levels, room size, speaker positions available (near wall, bookshelf, etc.) and personal sonic priorities (imaging, midrange, deep bass, etc.) will all be important to your decision.

For a system with real dynamic capability, smooth response, detail and relatively wide bandwidth consider the Altec Bolero.

For a smaller space consider the various versions of the LS3/5A, the JR-149 or the Goodmans Maximus 1 (amazing but hard to find). The Smaller Advent, EPI 70 & 100 and the smaller ADS systems are my favorite smaller US made 70's speakers. The Sansui SP-30 & 50 are nice sounding compact 2-ways with beautiful sculpted grills.

For a 'modern' classy look (and excellent sound) consider the Gale GS-401 (3-way with dual 8's, black with chrome ends).

That said, you can hardly go wrong with the speakers already suggested by others.

Lots of great choices. Have fun.

Bob
