airtime, had an Eico ST-70 back in the late '70s. Paid $40, used, with no chassis. After the tubed Fisher pro amp arrived, converted that pup to guitar amp duty. Those EL34s would glow a deep purple during high decibel deliveries, which is probably where Rich Blackmore's group culled its' moniker. Served well until a Marantz MR-2000 arrived. Made the sad mistake of letting a former friend "borrow" that pup, which wound up being lent to a third party(so the alibi went, when it was asked for back; was probably sold or exchanged for dope). Eico ST-70s are hearty beasts, as sonically solid as a Fender Bassman!
