Re: Dynaco ST-70 vs Eico HF-87 Anyone Familiar with Both of These?

Go go the Eico, even stock it will beat a modded ST-70 and some say is good as the sought after Marantz 8b! I ran my HF-87 stock with Electo Harmonix EL34's and it is to this day the best voiced amp Iv'e ever owned and at 35wpc, it boogied pretty well, bass was excellent, the midrange was liquid with a lot of depth, and the highs were not rolled off in the least. Sadly I sold it a few months back due to a new addition in the family and no room for the vintage system. The gent that bought it said stock it trounced his Dynaco mark III monoblocks and they were heavily modded. He has now upgraded the Eico with new caps and resistors and says it's phenominal! I believe he's running a rebuilt Eico HF-85 preamp as well. Buy one now though, in a couple years they'll being going for twice what they are now. Also, get the cage if you can. Nice unmolested examples are going in the $400 range and are definatly worth the price and then some.
