Thanks ~ EICO HF-81 Manual reprint

Kudret, thanks for the comments here. Glad you finally got an EICO to try. It appears as if you got a good one as well, which can sometimes be the amp's downfall as many were sold as kits, leaving the build quality and final outcome up to the skill of the chap with the soldering iron and brew. To let you know, my first EICO and my favorite of the ones I have heard (I have now heard at least five), was a kit unit evidently done very well and taken care of over the years on top of that. This tech where the unit was found brought it up on a variac and put a few oil caps in and cleaned it up a bit, but that was about it.

It ran straight from purchase and his hands for over six months without turn-off! I dont normally advise this due to obvious reasons but this EICO sounds better and better the longer it's left on. Indeed, I try to tell others to give it a few hours listen before making hard judgments.

It appears as if you have replaced the two main culprits in the PS caps. I think the best alternative appears to be the ELNA CERAFINE at 47uF but these are now about impossible to get. Instead of the ATOMS, Jean-Francois seems to think that JJ caps bypassed with an oil might be next in line. 50mfd is right on the edge and probably as high as you should go. I actually like the sound of the 30 and Jeff reports 47 being fine.

As for ole Jeff looking at it, I know he has so much on his plate right now, that might be hard to inact.

Here is one place in the link below that does a digital reprint of the EICO HF-81 manual for about $12. I so see the actual real manual come up on ebay every once in awhile but it does go in the 25 range more often then not. This copy might be a cheaper alternative.

Glad it working well for you. Send some shots when you can. Good to hear from you again.
