Some preamps like my vintage Sansui CA-2000 have TWO pairs of output jacks and an A+B switch position to make it very easy to connect to two amps- so no physical splitting of the preamp signal is necessary.Also- the advantage to vertical biamping is that each amp drives its own speaker and thus drives the woofer(s) in only one speaker as opposed to both. In a horizontal arrangement, one amp drives the high/mid, and one amp drives the lows (woofers)- in which case one amp has to drive the woofers in BOTH speakers. So it would seem given the choice, vertical biamping is preferable.
