Re: How well are vintage tube preamps suited for digital sources?

I agree with walter on this one.My tube amp is a Eico st70,and my ht av reciver is yamaha rxv-800,i run the psb image4t mains from my Eico and psb center, two rears, and sub through the yamaha.
A friend of mine bypassed the tone circuitry in the Eico so for ht i can run line out from the yammi to aux in the Eico. The music in dvds now has a great warm tube sound, and it seems to keep up to speed with everything else.I think this is the correct way to have it hooked up,sure soungs good to me!
For two channel music i use only my eico, with a cambridge audio cdp.blues and jazz sound great, but for harder music the tone controls in the Eico seem to let a fair amount of disstortion through.
I'm not sure what steps to take next, buy a seperate tube pre,or have some more!! work done on the Eico to clean up the front end

Any opinions? thanks Rob
