Home Vintage Asylum

Classic gear from yesteryear; vintage audio standing the test of time.

both have "redeeming social value" ;-)

The ST-40 is a good amplifier with some bad - and well documented - design "features". A little googling and soldering can yield a very respectable integrated amplifier. Disclaimer - Gary Kaufman kindly redid mine for me a year or so ago; shout-out to Gary!

The ST-40 was my daily driver for the last few months we still had the MA house; it sounded quite fine to me on a pair of EV Esquire speakers. Quite fine indeed.

The AR-15 was Heathkit's TOTL receiver in the early 1970s. The tuner section is more than adequate; the amplifier isn't bad for its time. Not necessarily worth a lot of time and effort... but not junk either.
