Hi Viridian, those preamps are out of my price range too. The most popular vintage preamp according to the numbers would be the Dynaco PAS-2, brass faceplate,PAS-3, gold or champagne silk screened faceplate,or the PAS-3X, same look as the 3. There all over E-bay, and you can get better jacks (gold) and volume and balance controls, and even a new style switch all under Dynaco in E-bay. There are a lot of modifications done by different audio gurus,Frank VanAlstine for one. Like Johnny Most, the old Boston Celtic announcer said; you can fiddle and diddle with it. When all hot rodded up,it might beat the Mac and Marantz in sound performance. It just doesn't look as pretty. This will probably be debated by those who can afford the those two but,Dynaco had an old slogan,Dynaco, the poor man's MacIntosh.(http://www.ebay.com/itm/Dynaco-PAS3-modification-new-circuit-boards-/251240030245?pt=Vintage_Electronics_R2&hash=item3a7f12a025).My PAS-2 is wired in the Last PAS modification. To make it better I'm going to put in new jacks, controls, and the switch. My tone controls and loudness were taken out of the circuit......take care....Mark Korda
