Indeed the 6L6 family is wonderful in hifi applications..The Russian 6P3SE sounds scarry close to a 6L6gc black plate..The 6P3SE is a 6L6gc of military quality so its stands to reason it sounds similar.
Look at all the tubes today that are based on the 6L6 topology. You have the 807,the 350b,the EL37,the 6V6,the 7591,the KT66,the 6BG6 and the list goes on and on...Most of the tubes I had mentioned are used in a PP 6.6k impedance fashion with the exception of the kT66 which is 6K.They all sound very good because they are so linear,make great power,and have low distortion.
