Really, 6L6GC are used in Fender amps. And maybe some clones or hot-rodded amps later, in the 1970-80's. You'll see as many EL34, EL84, 6V6GT, 6550, KT-88 based guitar amps as 6L6GC.

I think that a properly implemented, a 6L6GC (or any of its derivatives) can and do sound quite nice in hi-fi applications.

Leo just used the audio origin 6L6GC for many of his early amps. Not that RCA engineered the tube for guitar use.
