RE: Mike Samra'd Eico ST70

Funny thing is: I was using an 800C before I got the Eico in. The Eico is more detailed than Fisher. The Fisher has a warmer, fuller sound to it, more colored I guess? I love the sound of the 7591s, the 6L6's is kinda like getting a new girlfriend. Trying to see where her "wiggle spot" is. What's currently the thing for me is tube rolling in the Eico pre. I popped out the 5751s (which are great for the 800c),and put all amperex in it. The soundstage opened up a little more with a good balance. I tried TFKs and it didn't really feel (?) that great.I always considered 6L6's guitar tubes, but finding the balance between the output tubes and the pre tubes is kinda the challenge. I'm lucky to have a lot of 12ax7s both in quanity and variety. Besides the previously mentioned, i've got RCA black plates and sylvanias too. The Eico's got power for days and the sound is effortless. It's kinda like a Vanilla and Chocolate thing. Both are great, just depends the mood you're in.
